Exploring an Unusual Steam Demo: Playing as a Poop on a Quest to Arrive at the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is now live, and players have encountered a variety of interesting creations from small studios. But, one catches the eye for its offbeat concept. Called Unko Technica, this classic-feel side-scrolling game features a protagonist that is literally a turd attempting to make its way to a commode. For those curious, "Unko" translates to "poop."
How you interact is easy to grasp: just use a single jump button. Across 150 stages, you'll face boss fights and visit a shop to purchase outfits for your fecal avatar.
Execute your actions carefully, since one error requires beginning again. Leap off air pockets to propel yourself higher, navigate disappearing ledges, and activate switches to open secret routes. Gather UN-KOINS to purchase more difficult stages in which gameplay ramps up.
Graphically, the experience shows off eye-catching environments and an amazing music score. The simple visual style featuring moving geometric shapes may remind gamers of old favorites like Earthbound.
While it's difficult to recall similar titles where you control a coiled turd, gaming often featured fecal matter. For example, in Death Stranding, you can make explosives from protagonist droppings. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize dung as soil enrichment. And of course, fecal references shows up extensively in the role-playing game The Stick of Truth.
Putting aside its humorous concept, Unko Technica has already garnered impressive accolades, like being named best at Bandai Namco's GYAAR Studio in 2023. The demo is ready currently on Steam, with the full game planned to arrive on PC on November 19.
